Confidence does not come from being always right, but from not fearing mistakes.

I once thought confidence was demonstrated through external expressions like firm body language and decisive decision-making. But later I realized that true confidence originates from the depths of the heart. As Stephen Batchelor said, confidence is trust in our inner ability to awaken, allowing us to stay calm in the face of challenges and view each situation as an opportunity to learn. This is not arrogance, but a trusting belief that we can cope no matter what life brings. I became aware of this inner strength only after experiencing rock-bottom moments in life. In heartbreak and loss, I learned to face emotions, give them space, and see them as guides rather than enemies.
When Everything Falls Apart
There was a time when everything I thought was certain suddenly collapsed. The foundations on which I built my life—those plans, expectations, and the identity I had shaped—all vanished. I found myself with nothing solid to rely on except my own endurance, which sometimes felt fragile.
Confidence wasn’t something I deliberately pursued; I just tried to get through each day. I relied on the support of those around me while searching for hope within. Sometimes I found light, and other times I felt I had buried it deeper. Healing wasn’t instant; some days I felt strong, while others were overwhelmed by pain and doubt. But unknowingly, I began to build confidence, learning to survive in pain and grow stronger from it.
Living with Discomfort
For years, I had been meditating, reading, and reflecting, but during this period, my practice took on a different meaning. It was no longer about seeking peace, clarity, or becoming a better person; it was about learning to live with discomfort without trying to solve it. Most of the time, my meditation brought no peace. Instead of feeling calm or at ease, I felt restless, irritable, and even more confused.
But what I didn’t realize at the time was that I was already doing it. Meditation isn’t about achieving a state of bliss, but about cultivating the ability to face whatever arises without escape or rejection. The more I practiced, the more I realized that the confidence I sought wasn’t about knowing all the answers, but about trusting myself to handle the unknown.

Confidence Born After Pain
Over time, I realized that confidence isn’t about knowing exactly what will happen next. It’s about understanding that no matter what occurs, we have the strength and inner resources to face it.
True confidence stems from understanding impermanence and recognizing the power of change and adaptability. It comes from compassion born of suffering and trust in oneself without needing full comprehension. This confidence is introverted, not seeking external approval, but a deep, steadfast belief that one can face life independently, maintaining confidence even in uncertainty.
The Light Within You Is Always There
If you’re struggling now, feeling like the ground beneath you is shifting, I want you to know: there is a powerful light within you. It may feel faint at times, but it exists. It holds the wisdom, strength, and love you need—not just to survive, but to live fully, deeply, and meaningfully.
Concepts like confidence or inner strength may sound foreign now, but they form, accumulate, and grow in quiet, unknown ways—through your perseverance, in the small moments when you stand up for yourself, in your daily silent efforts, and in the corners of your heart where hope remains.
True confidence doesn’t mean never feeling fear or doubt. In fact, these emotions are an indispensable part of being human. It is because of fear and doubt that we can truly recognize freedom and inner strength—how can there be darkness without light? Face these emotions as much as possible, accept them, and make space for them, and you begin to embrace your humanity.
Confidence means moving forward, embracing everything, and trusting that your humanity has the ability to handle any challenge, even if you’ve struggled with it in the past. It means understanding at your core that no matter what life brings, there is always a light within you—you just need to let it shine.
And this is how the calm confidence within you pushes you forward. Every experience is a gift, an opportunity to expand wisdom, and a way to grow in ways that may not be obvious but always propel you forward.
